Jessop – DAH.A

Project Jessop is a masterful transformation of a classic Queenslander. Located in the leafy suburb of Windsor, this striking major renovation, raise, and extension breathes new life into a heritage home, turning historical charm into a contemporary masterpiece.

Designed by David Hansford of DAH.A, the home was approached with a clear vision: to elevate its daily liveability while preparing for the future. Traditional Queenslanders are famous for their beauty, but their layouts can often isolate families, leaving formal rooms tucked away and underutilised. Project Jessop solves this beautifully. By raising the original structure and extending its footprint, the design seamlessly bridges the gap between classic character and modern, connected living.

The true genius of the renovation lies in its clever zoning, specifically tailored for a growing family moving toward adulthood. To give older children the independence and flexibility they need during university years and beyond, a dedicated lower level was created. This new zone features spacious downstairs bedrooms, individual bathrooms, and a shared living area—solving the limitations of the home’s original, smaller bedrooms while creating a functional, private sanctuary for the young adults.

Watara’s early involvement in the design phase allowed for meticulous value management and buildability feedback. This collaborative approach empowered the clients to refine their material selections early on, ensuring a premium, high-end finish that stayed strictly within budget while paving the way for a smooth, flawless 18-month construction process.

From its commanding, crisp white street presence with elegant batten detailing to its thoughtfully zoned interiors, Project Jessop is a celebration of smart design. It stands as a perfect example of how to respect the architectural soul of a home while evolving it into a luxurious, highly functional sanctuary for the modern era.
