Mid-century meets modern – this project demonstrates the potential of a heritage renovation that builds upon the past.

Our clients have lived in Yeronga for 13 years and have always appreciated the serenity and seclusion of the area. They have three active children and lead busy lives, so having a tranquil space to come home to was very important to them. When considering the design for their home, it was critical to increase the size but maintain the original mid-century character that they loved so much.

As the kids were getting older, they needed a functional space to grow into. We achieved this through a layout configuration and the addition of a second-story extension completed with stunning finishes. The kitchen was moved from the back of the home to the front, achieving a connection to the outdoor terrace, garden, and pool. We have also created a quiet parent retreat on the upper level, to capture the river views and breeze. Natural light floods through the home, thanks to generous new openings and reconfiguring of the main living spaces.

The finishes of this home are unique and minimal. Blackbutt timber soffit ceiling at the front of the home and curved dowel feature on the island bench tieing inside and outside together seamlessly, custom screening in the entry and stairs, classic mid-century pink & green feature tiles, and feature brickwork paths are just some of the highlights.

The major renovations and extension encourage a strong relationship between the landscape, as part of daily life, and cater to a large family passionate about their neighbourhood and entertaining.

We began a large-scale renovation of our beloved Mid-century home with excitement but also some trepidation. Our project included second-storey addition, two new bathrooms, a new kitchen, an extension to living and bedroom spaces and extensive outdoor entertainment, new pool, and entrance! Like most our standards are high and we felt confronted by the challenge of finding a builder that shared our vision and met our expectations for high quality finishes. We are very pleased to report our experience with Watara has been a wonderful one - resulting in an exceptional outcome. Our home feels like a work of art, the perfect balance of old and new. We can confirm that Mitch and his team share the standard of impeccable finishes we had hoped for.Working with Watara felt like a real partnership. Our input into the design and construction process was encouraged by Mitch throughout. The strong consultation, expert guidance and execution has certainly created an amazing end product that we are very proud of.Mitch should be complimented for his presence, patience and persistence to complete a high quality project in a difficult market. He demonstrated overcoming challenges as one of his greatest strengths. Supported by Hayley, incredible foreman Dan and other skilled tradespeople - Watara are a formidable team!We would have no hesitation in recommending Watara to anyone embarking on a renovation.
